Features and Benefits of Angular Contact Ball Bearing

Angular Contact Ball Bearing

A typical angular contact ball bearing has two raceways namely the inner and the outer one. The ball bearings are held between these two raceways. These bearings make a specific contact angle that defines the strength of the bearing. More the angle of contact more is the load-bearing capacity. These angular contact ball bearings are used as a single unit or in pairs. Using more units increases the radial load allows increasing the axial load-bearing capacity.

Different features of angular contact ball bearing:

There are different features of these angular contact ball bearings that provide the added benefits. These include:

Bearing material: The bearings can be constructed using different materials like metal alloys, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminium, polymer, etc. The material is selected based on the intended use. The use of high-quality steel extends the life of bearings by 80%.

Grease technology: Using advanced or specialized lubricants can extend the life of the bearings and also enhance their performance.

Grade of bearing balls: There are different grades of ball bearings available. Using the high grade of balls makes the operations smooth, friction less, and at higher speeds.

Raceways: The raceways are also available in different qualities and the selection of these raceways depends on the function. A super finished raceway is of the best quality as it reduces the noise and allows easily improved distribution of the lubricant. This enhances the efficiency of the bearings.

Contact angles: These angular contact ball bearings are available in various degrees like 15, 25, 30, and 40 degrees. The load-bearing capacity increases with an increase in the angle of contact.

Sealed bearings: Certain bearings are sealed and these sealed bearings are self-lubricated. These help to extend the life of the bearings, reduce the inventory, reduces contamination caused by the use of lubricants.

Cages: The presence of cages helps the bearing to function at a higher speed with improved endurance. The different materials used for the cage include polyamide, steel, brass, phenolic resin, etc.

There are different types of bearings that make the working of various machines easy and efficient. There are different types of bearings available and one of the types is the angular contact ball bearing. There are different varieties and functions of each of these bearing. One has to select the best one based on their need and function.
